Mumbai: The Bangladesh government has ordered an immediate suspension of the telecast and promotion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the controversy involving national fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman.
The decision comes after Mustafizur was removed from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad midway through the season, a move that Bangladeshi authorities say was communicated as a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In an official announcement, the administration confirmed that all IPL-related broadcasts, promotions and event coverage have been halted with immediate effect. The order stated that the suspension will remain in force until further communication from the authorities and was taken “in the public interest” with approval from the competent authority.
“A request has been made to stop the promotion/broadcast of all games and events of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until further orders,” the statement said, as reported by IndiaToday.
Bangladeshi officials expressed strong dissatisfaction over Mustafizur’s exclusion, criticising the decision as unjustified. According to the government order, the move has sparked widespread public anger across the country.
“There is no logical reason for this decision of the Indian Cricket Board and such a decision has distressed, shocked and angered the people of Bangladesh,” the order stated, underlining the intensity of public sentiment surrounding the issue.
