Mumbai, February 4, 2026: Khar Gymkhana felicitated its long-time member and former Mumbai stalwart Amol Muzumdar on Wednesday for his pivotal role as head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team in their historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The felicitation ceremony, held at the Central Lawns of Khar Gymkhana, celebrated Muzumdar’s outstanding contribution to Indian cricket, both as a prolific former domestic batter and as a coach who guided India to their maiden Women’s World Cup title. Muzumdar has shared a close association with the club for over four decades, first as a young cricketer and later as a mentor and leader.

Speaking at the event, Gaurav Kapadia, President of Khar Gymkhana, said: “Amol Muzumdar’s journey reflects excellence, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the game. From being one of Mumbai’s most accomplished batters to taking on the responsibility of coaching at the highest level, he has consistently raised the bar across every phase of his cricketing life.”

“Guiding the Indian women’s team to a World Cup title is a landmark achievement, not just for Amol personally, but for Indian cricket as a whole. Khar Gymkhana is immensely proud to honour one of its own for an achievement that will be remembered in Indian cricket history.”

Former Khar Gymkhana President Vivek Devnani, who introduced Muzumdar at the function, reflected on his long association with the former cricketer.

“Some people are part of your life for so long that their journey feels personal, and for me, Amol Muzumdar is one of them. My association with him goes back over 40 years, to when he was an under-15 cricketer playing on the Khar Gymkhana grounds. Even then, his discipline, focus, and unmistakable Mumbai grit stood out.

“While he played in an era of greats, his contribution was never in doubt. Today, that journey has come full circle. As head coach, he guided India to their first Women’s World Cup, joining a rare group of achievers. I’ve seen him grow from a young boy at Khar Gymkhana to standing on the world stage, and for me, this moment is deeply personal.”

Expressing his gratitude, Muzumdar said the recognition from Khar Gymkhana held special significance.

“I’ve had a long association with Khar Gymkhana, having spent several hours and days playing not just cricket but tennis as well. This club was where I hung up my boots, in 2014 – and to return here has been a humbling experience. Grateful for the felicitation and the friendships I’ve forged here through my career!

“India’s World Cup victory was the result of collective belief and hard work. The players and support staff trusted the process and committed themselves fully to the cause, and I am grateful to have been part of that journey. To share this moment with my Khar Gymkhana family makes it even more special.”

The felicitation reaffirmed Khar Gymkhana’s enduring legacy as a cradle of sporting excellence and its commitment to celebrating individuals who elevate Indian sport on the global stage.
