Mumbai: Reliance Foundation founder and chairperson Nita Ambani paid glowing tribute to India’s World Cup-winning cricket teams at the second edition of the United in Triumph celebration held in Mumbai on Monday. The evening brought together champions from three historic triumphs — the Indian men’s T20 World Cup team, the Indian women’s World Cup-winning side, and the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team — under one roof.

The special felicitation ceremony was attended by some of the biggest names in Indian sport and entertainment, including megastar Amitabh Bachchan, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and ICC Chairman Jay Shah. Players and support staff from the victorious squads were honoured for their remarkable achievements on the global stage.

Celebrating Three Historic World Cup Wins

The event recognised India’s men’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, where Rohit Sharma’s side edged past South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Barbados, powered by a decisive bowling performance in the death overs and a match-winning 76 from Virat Kohli.

Also honoured was the Indian women’s cricket team, which lifted the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 after a dominant 52-run victory over South Africa at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. Shafali Verma starred with an outstanding all-round performance, scoring 87 runs and picking up two wickets, while Deepti Sharma delivered a memorable spell of 5 for 39 along with a vital half-century.

Adding to the celebrations was the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team, who scripted history by winning the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind. The team defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the final held in Sri Lanka, comfortably chasing down a target of 115 runs.

Nita Ambani on the Power of Sport

Speaking at the event, Nita Ambani described the occasion as a proud and emotional moment for the nation. “We are beginning the New Year with something truly special,” she said. “For the first time, India’s men’s, women’s and blind women’s cricket teams are together under one roof. On behalf of every Indian, we honour them tonight for the joy, pride and happiness they have given us.”

Highlighting the unifying strength of sport, she added, “Sport connects hearts and brings India together. Today, we are united in triumph. We celebrate not just victories, but the spirit behind them.”

Honouring Leadership and Inspiration

At the centre of the celebration were the three World Cup-winning captains — Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepika TC — whose leadership, determination and belief guided their teams to historic success. United in Triumph reflected Nita Ambani’s vision of sport as a powerful force for inclusion, excellence and national unity, honouring not only championships but the values that define India’s sporting journey.
